The BCom degree normally requires three years of full-time study over two trimesters each year. For most BCom major choices, the first half of the degree can be completed in HCMC. Students must choose at least one major for their degree. Some majors (such as Actuarial Science, Information Systems and Tourism Management) require a longer period of study in Wellington.
We offer 12 BCom courses at the Joint Programme campus. All BCom students must take these seven core courses: ACCY 111 (Accounting), ECON 130 (Economic Principles and Issues), FCOM 111 (Government, Law and Business), INFO 101 (Foundations of Information Systems), MARK 101 (Principles of Marketing), MGMT 101 (Introduction to Management) and QUAN 102 (Statistics for Business). There are two main trimesters each year beginning in September/October and February/March. There is also a summer trimester in June. Students can join the programme at the beginning of any trimester but only students starting full time in September/October will be able to complete the full programme in one and a half years.
The minimum full time load is 3 courses (45 points) and the maximum is 4 courses (60 points) per trimester.
The VUW guideline states 1 point = 10 hours of work/week – this includes contact hours and independent study for the course.
Students who have passed at least six (6) JTP courses at the UEH, and have attained an English test score of at least 6.0 IELTS with no sub-score less than 5.5 (or its equivalent in another internationally recognised English testing system) will be accepted for transfer to VUW to complete VUW’s BCom degree in at least one major subject area. Any student that transfers with less than twelve JTP courses can expect to study a longer pathway at VUW. Students may transfer to VUW in either VUW Trimester 1 (March – June) or Trimester 2 (July – October).
